I am passionate about supporting women to be the biggest, boldest version of themselves, no matter their age or background.
My mission is to empower you to confidently pursue whatever you want to achieve, including reaching our teenage girls in schools during those vital formative years as they grow into young women.
The word Seka comes from my Ghanaian heritage. It means “calm” or “peace” and carries connotations of tranquillity, renewal and serenity. It is a term often used in situations where we are seeking a state of peace and quiet. This reflects the Ghanaian culture of harmony, emphasising balance in life. This spirit underpins everything I do - my approach to work and life is based on building relationships through authentic connections.
Having experienced serious burnout twice in my career, and as a busy working mum, I know first-hand what it feels like when things spiral and get out of balance. During my career working as a senior communications professional for large global brands, I gained extensive experience in coaching leaders and teams on how to communicate and collaborate better.
Many of these colleagues were women and they started approaching me for help with more personal matters and scenarios; everything from imposter syndrome, to feeling able to be authentic in sharing their struggle to juggle work and home, to communicating effectively with difficult colleagues, and managing their impact, energy and mood in high-profile roles alongside their monthly cycle. I began coaching and supporting these women, who were all at different stages of their lives and career.
This highlighted to me that as women, regardless of our relationship status, age, or cultural background, we navigate many challenges due to holding several different roles in life. We may be working professionals, running our own businesses, or working in the home, retired, looking after our families and caring for elderly parents, or grandchildren, as well as being mothers, sisters, daughters, aunts, or nieces. Juggling the demands of these multiple hats can mean that we are constantly spinning plates, with very little time for ourselves and no time to think or plan.
Helping women tune into their needs
Back in 2012, I started running women's workshops that were a hit, but life got in the way. As a result, I dropped the ball and was running them less often. Years later, after diving into professional development studies on resilience and wellbeing, and experiencing my third career redundancy, I decided it was time to pick the ball up again. With over a decade of additional life and work experience under my belt, I relaunched my business. That's how Sekawomen was born.
